In our daily lives, we talk about various topics. Conversations usually take place between two people, but conversations can take place with more than two people at the same time. This conversation is called ‘Dialogue’ in English and ‘Sanlap’ in Bengali. We use different ‘dialogues’ in our daily lives depending on different situations. There are two types of dialogue: (1) spoken dialogue, (2) written dialogue.

Spoken dialogue: A conversation between two or more people is called spoken dialogue. It consists of spoken vocal sounds between participants in a conversation and an exchange of sounds and expressions between two or more people through instruments.

Nature of Spoken Dialogue: Spoken dialogue is generally limited to light conversation. In spoken dialogue, speech is sloppy. Sophisticated, refined, and logical speech is rarely present in spoken dialogue. Spoken dialogue is shaky on the rocks of logic. Spoken dialogue has very little room for thought. Spoken dialogue is the name of ordinary conversation. Spoken dialogue lacks artistic quality.

In this type of dialogue, the interests of the individual prevail, so its universality is rare. Spoken dialogue, created on the spur of the moment, ignores ideals, ethics, and values due to lack of time for thought. Spoken dialogue lacks eloquence. I had a lot to say about spoken dialogue. But the main aim of this discussion is to give the students a complete knowledge about ‘Written spoken dialogue’. So the discussion about spoken dialogue is interrupted here, and I am focusing on written dialogue.

Written dialogue is sophisticated, refined, thoughtful, objective, and reasoned speech between two or more persons. Written dialogue is usually a mature product of thought, imagination, and wisdom. There are many techniques for composing written dialogue. Some of the important techniques are summarized below:

• The dialogue writer will not stop only by creating motivation in the human heart; he has to go a little further and sow the seeds of establishing strength, courage, ideal justice, principle, and truth in the human heart.
